Spring Trends for 2016

As the Winter sales start to pitter out, the stores are now starting to fill up with the upcoming Spring trends. It’s the best time to introduce a handful of new pieces to your wardrobe for the next few months and the good news is, each of these trends can be mix and matched with many of the trends that we saw last year. To help you in your quest for a wardrobe update, here’s a run down of some of the upgraded trends that we love this season!

One of the biggest trends this upcoming season is ruffle detailing. From collars on blouses, to sleeves on t-shirts and even hemlines on jeans, you’re going to want to your hands on some ruffled pieces for your wardrobe. Now we’re not saying you have to look like you’ve stumbled out of Beamish, design inspired from the Victorian-era is huge news this Spring. Whether you’re looking for high-neck structured collars or delicate lace knee-length dresses, they can be paired with both feminine and masculine staple pieces (depending on your own personal style) and you’re totally set for the upcoming months.

If you’re feeling super brave with your outfit choices this season, then geometric prints are a great way to do so. And if you want extra style points, think about 60s inspired cuts to nail this trend. One of our favourite ways to incorporate them into our outfits is by mixing them with basic items, such as a simple white blouse, a roll neck jumper or an a-line skirt. Dorothy Perkins, located in the Upper Green Mall has a large selection of pieces that we absolutely love, such as this printed pinafore and collar blouse combo.

And if vibrant prints aren’t really your thing, then your luck is in – earthy tones are set to be big over the coming months. The 70s trend was huge last year and it’s set to stay again this Spring, this time a little differently; with muted patchwork suedes and boho details rather than last year’s oversized flares and dark denim. Mustard yellows, rust oranges and dusty pinks are real fail-safe hues if you want to give this trend a go. Two stores, which have really embraced these this season, are River Island and H&M - both are located in the Lower Red Mall.

Sport-luxe was a big trend last year and it’s going to continue through this season, with bomber jackets being a real prominent piece in stores right now. Paired with the Pantone colour of the year, rose quartz, you will want to look like an extra member of the Pink Ladies in no time. From jewel satin tones, to army greens and embroidered details, wear yours dressed-down in trainers, or dressed-up in heels for that off-duty look.

Finally, if all else fails, then you can never go wrong with Parisian-style fashion. We’re talking classic, iconic styles such as; Breton stripe tees, trench coats and tailored trousers that are real staple pieces in every wardrobe. If you’re looking to update it for this season, mix with light-wash denim and add a neck-tie bow to any collar.
